We started off today with a frigid float in the Dead Sea. It might have been one of the coolest things Ben and I have done on all of our travels! We could have stayed in that water all day. There is something almost hypnotizing about it. The buoyancy you experience is trippy! The water leaves an oily, yet pleasant film on your skin and Ben swears it made his legs feel like new even after running for almost an hour for the last three days in a row! He is floating on his belly in the picture above and there is also a view of the Dead Sea below.
We spent the rest of the morning at Masada. It was an Israeli stronghold that was attacked and defeated (after 7 years) by the Romans in 73 AD. When the people at Masada realized that the Romans would overtake them, they chose 10 men to kill everyone before killing themselves. They thought it better to die than become Roman slaves. Only 7 women and children survived by hiding in a water cistern. There is actually a movie out about this called "Masada" which is on it's way from Netflix! In one of the pictures you can see the view looking down from Masada and you can see the remnants of the ramp that the Romans built to reach Masada.
We traveled on to Ein Gedi which means "Spring of the Goat". It is mentioned in 1 Samuel 24. David was hiding from Saul in one of the many caves that you can see, when Saul came into the cave....well you can read the story for yourself rather than me rambling on about it. You can see one of the springs in the pictures above.
We then went for lunch/dinner at a place called Abraham's Tent. It is in the middle of the Judean Wilderness and is is complete with characters, including Abraham and some of his sons. We rode on a camel and enjoyed a dinner with foods that were typical in biblical times.
